This is very frustrating because COD4 offers one of the best multiplayer experiences of any first person shooter currently on the shelf. If you are like me, when you initially tried to fix the problem you googled it and probably found the same video that i found. The video offers a very superstitious solution to the problem that does not work, and if you tried it and it did work it was purely luck which it was for me a couple times. The solution this video gives is something like: turn your ps3 off from the back, then disconnect your router, then wait 25 seconds, then plug it back in, then wait 10 seconds and turn your ps3 back on, then go to network setting and disconnect and reconnect and then it will magically work. No, that does not work. I finally got tired of it and decided I was going to find the definitive solution to the problem, and that is just what I did and i have not seen the dreaded "Downloading Game Settings..." that never goes away since. The problem comes from your router, so the first thing that you need to do is find out the IP address to your router. For example, the IP to my router is 192.168.2.1. So if you happen to have a Belkin router this will be the number for you as well. If not, the IP to your router will be very similar to this and what you need to do to find it is refer to your user manual or the manufacturers web site. once you have this number you simply type it in to the address bar of your web browser and hit enter. You will now have access to your router and will be able to modify your routers settings. Next what you need to do is designate ports specifically for Call of Duty 4. COD4 uses four different UDP ports, and three different TCP ports (I only have 3 of the UDP ones, I don't think you will need to use the 4th one). The UDP ones are: 365, 347, and 307. The TCP ones are: 80, 443, and 522. These are actually the numbers that come from Activision. So you find the part of your router settings where it lets you add virtual servers, and you title the ports Call of Duty 4, choose the type of port (UDP or TCP), and enter the numbers in. You can refer to the picture at the top of this blog so you can see exactly how i entered the numbers in. You also need to make sure that you enter the correct IP for Your PS3 for each of the ports. As you can see from the picture the IP for my PS3 is 192.168.2.3 So do this, save your settings and you are good to go. You will never see that irritating Downloading Game Settings... message again! Turn on your console and get to it! If you found this helpful and you would like to play me sometime my Playstation Network ID is BucketSniper15. I currently play COD4, COD World At War, Street Fighter 4, and Socom. Really hope this helps everyone out there!
